Newcastle fans react to Andy Carroll return rumours - would he be welcomed back?

West Ham United striker Andy Carroll has once again been linked with a return to Newcastle United - but what do Magpies fans think about that possibility?

Newcastle United have endured a tough start to the season, with Alan Pardew's side continuing the poor form from the second half of last season into this term. The Magpies sit third bottom of the Premier League table with only four points from the first seven games of the campaign, with the beleaguered Pardew watching his side score just seven goals this season.

It's clear that the Magpies must look to bring in more attacking players in January, and whilst French youngster Paul Georges-Ntep has been linked with a move from Rennes, there's a far more familiar name being suggested a possible target in the New Year for Newcastle - Andy Carroll.

The Gateshead born target man joined Newcastle as a 16-year-old, playing for his local and boyhood club in the process. After a loan move to Preston in 2007, Carroll managed to take on a bigger role in the Newcastle side before hitting 30 goals in just a season and a half before a stunning £35m move to Liverpool in January 2011.

His career at Anfield was a disaster, scoring just 11 goals in 58 games before being loaned out and eventually sold to West Ham United for £15m in 2013. Injuries have really taken their toll on Carroll, and with West Ham strikers Diafra Sahko, Enner Valencia and Mauro Zarate all impressing so far this season, it's believed that the Hammers are willing to let Carroll move back to St. James' Park in January.

Yet after his controversial exit from Tyneside in 2011, it's unclear how welcome Carroll would be back in the North East. Newcastle fans seem fairly undecided on the possibility, and here are a number of tweets from Newcastle fans...
