Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera has admitted that he will always fondly remember his days at Athletic Bilbao.
The 25-year-old joined the La Liga outfit in the summer of 2011 from Real Zaragoza and went on to establish himself as one of the best players in Europe.
During his three years at Bilbao, Herrera made close to 100 league appearances and earned plaudits for his performances.
United want to sign the Spaniard last summer, but they failed to meet the transfer fee demands of Bilbao. This summer they paid the reported £29 million needed to recruit him.
Herrera has now looked back fondly on his days at Bilbao and concedes that he will always hold them dear to his heart.
‘My team is Real Zaragoza but I am very grateful to Athletic Club and my time there – they will always be in my heart’, he told Inside United.
Herrera has proved to be a great addition to Louis van Gaal’s United team so far this season. The Spaniard has been made a consistent figure in midfield, and he has repaid that faith by scoring two goals and creating five chances in four Premier League appearances.
Former Bilbao star Herrera’s passing accuracy is also a laudable 89%, although his shot accuracy is just 40%.
