Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema are Real Madrid teammates, but on Saturday they were rivals at Stade de France.
France hosted Portugal in a friendly international, with Ronaldo and Benzema both starting.
Ronaldo has struggled to play his best football for Portugal in recent months, and he failed once again against France.
It was the former Manchester United winger’s Madrid teammate Benzema who stole the show, scoring the opening goal and setting up Paul Pogba for the second for a 2-1 victory.
After the match, United winger Nani, currently on loan at Sporting Lisbon, was asked about the duo.
‘Today was not about who is better between Karim Benzema and Cristiano Ronaldo’, Goal.com quotes the 27-year-old as saying. ‘We know who is better... Today was a good game and that was what was most important for both teams’.
Ronaldo’s recent struggles for Portugal do not eclipse the fact that he is one of the two best players in the world.
Benzema is a brilliant striker and is hugely important to Madrid, but not many will claim him to be a better player than Ronaldo.
