Manchester United defender Marcos Rojo has revealed that he cannot understand what his new teammate Wayne Rooney is saying.
In an interview with the Sun, the Argentine international said, “Rooney is a professional guy but he is so funny when he speaks.
“In fact, he jokes at me and Angel (Di Maria) but I have to admit we don’t understand his jokes because we don’t speak English.”
Rojo has settled well since his summer move from Sporting Lisbon, and while he had to wait patiently for his work permit he has finally got some much needed time on the pitch, and is beginning to build an effective defensive partnership with an unlikely player.
Paddy McNair was not mentioned as a possible United first-team star just a few short weeks ago, but the teenager has impressed alongside Rojo, even if the older of the two is still learning English.
Rojo’s centre-back pairing – be it with McNair or any of United’s other defenders – is likely to improve in the months ahead, not least because he will be getting to grips with the language.
Who knows, he may even be able to understand those jokes of Rooney’s, too.
