Everton striker Romelu Lukaku on 'the booze'

The £28 million signing from Chelsea has made it clear that he lives a quiet life off the pitch.

Football has certainly changed in the past 20 to 30 years. The fitness and nutrition side of things more than most.

But one area which seems to be untouched is in regards to alcohol. Every week there is a story of a Premier League footballer having a little bit too much to drink on a night out and usually doing something stupid on top of that.

Drinking is part of football culture in the UK and it seems that is not about to change any time soon.

But one player for whom this is not a problem is Everton striker Romelu Lukaku. The Belgian attacker joined Everton for £28 million this summer, a club record signature.

He arrived in England back in 2011 but in those three years he has not been swayed by the drinking culture of English football.

In an interview this weekend he has spoken about his quiet life off the pitch, and how he is in fact a gentle giant:

"I prefer to stay home. I never went out a lot even when I was a kid growing up in Belgium. I've never had a glass of alcohol in my life either. It's out of my comfort zone and I don't know how to act. I'm very shy. When people know me, like here at Everton, they know I'm a crazy guy who likes to joke around and tease. But when I don't know you, at first I'm very cold."

It certainly will not come as a surprise to football fans that Lukaku looks after himself off the pitch. He is in peak physical condition and being teetotal certainly helps matters.

Everton fans will hope their attacker continues to keep up his quiet life off the pitch, in order to keep him being so alive on it.
