Agent of former Barcelona star dismisses Liverpool trial rumours

Liverpool reportedly asked Victor Valdes to take a trial.

Victor Valdes’s agent Gines Carvajal has dismissed reports that his client refused to join Liverpool for a trial by stating that it was never offered.

The Sunday People reported last night that the former Barcelona shot-stopper was asked to join the Reds on trial by boss Brendan Rodgers as he seeks competition for Simon Mignolet.

The Anfield outfit were heavily linked with a move for the Spanish international previously, but a long-term injury suffered at the back-end of last season put a halt to proceedings.

Since recovering, Valdes has naturally been lacking match fitness due to his current free agent status and reports hinted that the Merseysiders wanted to get him up to speed before making a potential offer.

Valdes’s agent Cavajal, however, has rubbished such reports by telling Spanish publication Diario Sport that his client never received an offer from the Premier League outfit.

He said: "Liverpool have not offered us the chance to train with them for four days. And we have not rejected the offer, because it is false [the offer]. That proposal was never made to us by Brendan Rodgers nor by Liverpool at any moment."

The 32-year-old shot-stopper has only ever represented Barcelona, making more than 500 appearances for the Catalan club in all competitions over 12 seasons.

He has won six La Liga titles, three Champions League medals and two Copa Del Rey crowns amongst a host of other trophies during his time at the Nou Camp.
