Manchester United defender Tyler Blackett has been explaining his playing style.
The 20-year-old has been promoted to the first team this season by new manager Louis van Gaal, who seems to have taken a shine to him.
The England Under-21 international travelled with the Red Devils squad to the USA for their pre-season tour and is now a first-choice centre-back for the Manchester outfit.
Blackett has been on the books of United since 2002 and seems to have finally made the breakthrough this term. The youngster has now explained his playing style, and how he has changed from a left-back to a centre-back.
‘To be honest, I’m not really that bothered’, he told Inside United. ‘I like to play down the left side, either as a left centre-back or a left-back.
‘I like to have the ball and play, by making good passes and helping the team defend as well. Whichever way the manager wants me to play, I’ll do it’.
Blackett’s ability to play the ball and start attacks from the back is something that must have pleased Van Gaal.
After all, not many defenders, especially those in the Premier League, are comfortable on the ball and know when and how to launch attacking moves.
Of course, Blackett has a long way to go, but given his natural ability and willingness to play the way Van Gaal wants him to, it is clear that he has a bright future ahead of him.
