Scotland's 2016 European Championship qualifying phase started with a 2-1 defeat to World Champions Germany, but they notched their first win of the campaign today with a 1-0 win over Georgia at Ibrox.
An first half own goal from Georgian Akaki Khubutia handed Scotland the win, but it could have been far more comfortable for Gordon Strachan's side had they managed to convert more chances - and they created a whole number of them.
Scotland had 17 attempts on the Georgia goal in the 90 minutes, but could only get five on target as Strachan's men failed to kill the game off in the second half, leading to something of a nervy finish at Ibrox.
One of the biggest culprits was Everton striker Steven Naismith. The former Rangers man was making his return to Ibrox after leaving Glasgow for Everton back in 2012, and has made a blistering start to the new Premier League season with four goals in the opening seven games.
However, he missed a number of chances tonight, leading to a number of frustrated Scotland fans taking to Twitter to criticise the Everton forward - and here's a selection of those tweets.
If Naismith remembered how to finish that could've been 4-0 but oh well 3 points.— Sean (@SMac5000) October 11, 2014
That second half was bloody torture. Naismith and Fletcher couldn't finish a sentence.— Bflo Celtic (@BfloCeltic) October 11, 2014
Probably should have won 3 or 4-0 if Naismith and Maloney could actually finish— JORDAN (@Yordaaaaaaaan) October 11, 2014
3 points, could have been more comfortable if Naismith had brought his shooting boots.— Paul Kidd (@expatPK) October 11, 2014
3 points. At times an over reliance on the Hollywood pass but very very fluent at times too. Naismith ironically the weak link— Ross McCafferty (@RossMcCaff) October 11, 2014
Not sure if Naismith should be allowed another chance at goal. Sitters in Germany and tonight were inexcusable.— Andrew Reid (@AJReid93) October 11, 2014
Naismith was very poor, just need a finisher. It's a win non the less, promising.— Woody (@scottwoody97) October 11, 2014
Naismith needs to be better for Scotland !!— danzareidy! (@danza_1892) October 11, 2014
Stevie Naismith is absolutely terrible for Scotland. Could've been 3 or 4 up if he carried his Everton form into internationals.— Scott Duffy (@ScottDuffy92) October 11, 2014
