The Netherlands picked up their first points of the Euro 2016 campaign on Friday when they got the better of Kazakhstan 3-1 in Amsterdam.
The 2014 World Cup semi-finalists headed into the encounter at the Amsterdam ArenA looking to bounce back from their shock defeat to the Czech Republic in Prague last month.
The Oranje had stumbled to a 2-1 defeat to the Czechs at the Generali Arena, but on Friday they recovered to defeat Kazakhstan at home.
However, it did not prove to be easy for Guus Hiddink’s side. Kazakhstan took a shock lead at the Amsterdam ArenA through Rinat Abdulin after just 17 minutes and held onto that advantage until half time.
Hiddink, who had succeeded Louis van Gaal after the 2014 World Cup, must have been delighted to see his players step up their game in the second half.
Klaas-Jan Huntelaar equalised for the Netherlands on 62 minutes and Ibrahim Afellay made it 2-1 20 minutes later. Then with a minute of normal time remaining, Manchester United striker Robin van Persie wrapped up the 3-1 win when he found the target from the penalty spot.
