Chile beat Peru 3-0 in the early hours of Saturday morning, courtesy of a brace from Eduardo Vargas and a goal from Gary Medel.
It was an eventful game, with Chile goalkeeper Claudio Bravo became his nation’s most-capped player, winning his 85th cap on the night, while Peru had Rinaldo Cruzado sent off and saw Paolo Guerrero miss a penalty with the scores level.
There was plenty of Premier League interest in the game, with Queens Park Rangers’ on-loan player Vargas stealing the show, while his clubmate Mauricio Islas and Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez also started for Chile.
The win was Chile’s first since their outstanding World Cup campaign, but there was a blow as it was later confirmed that Arturo Vidal had suffered yet another injury.
The home side had 72 per cent possession, but they could not turn their incredible dominance into a huge victory.
