Tottneham Hotspur winger Erik Lamela got a late surprise in the build-up to the match between Argentina and Brazil on Saturday.
The 22-year-old was readying himself for a place on the bench, before a late change to the starting XI saw the Spurs man start ahead of Javier Pastore.
Lamela has enjoyed a renaissance this season, proving to be the star performer Tottenham thought they were signing two managers ago. But having now settled in at White Hart Lane, the Argentine international is enjoying a campaign to remember, with six assists in his opening 10 matches in all competitions.
Big things are expected of the Spurs star and against Brazil he had the perfect opportunity to prove he deserved to play alongside the likes of Angel Di Maria and Lionel Messi. But there was to be no happy ending, with Brazil running out 2-0 winners despite their opponents having the better of the first half.
After the match, we took to Twitter to see what fans made of Lamela's performance, and below you can read a selection of what we found:

Eric Lamela shouldn't be playing on the same team as Messi, Di Maria and Aguero.— Jungle Jim. (@jaieliz) October 11, 2014
