Former Arsenal winger Robert Pires is one of the greatest footballers of all time and a Premier League legend, but Manchester City star David Silva is better than him.
That’s the opinion of former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher, who left the Spain international attacking midfielder out of his Premier League XI of the best foreigners ever.
.@sammyt933 Massive fan of Pires but watching silva is an education on how to find space and recieve a pass.— Jamie Carragher (@Carra23) October 11, 2014
Arsenal fans are likely to disagree with Carragher. After all, Pires was a key player for the Gunners during their glory years of the early noughties, winning the Premier League twice and the FA Cup thrice.
Pires’s style and skills mesmerised everyone who watched him play, but Silva is also a truly brilliant and talented footballer. The 28-year-old attacker has been on the books of City since 2010 and is one of the most important players in the Citizens' squad.
Comparing Pires and Silva will be largely subjective, and it seems that Carragher has gone with the latter.
