The Aston Villa star has been speaking about his boyhood heroes.
Aston Villa forward Gabriel Agbonlahor has been speaking about the upcoming match between his side and Everton.
Players from across the globe are currently focused on international duty, but next Saturday it will be back to domestic matters, with Villa taking on the Toffees at Goodison Park, a ground Agbonlahor has fond memories of.
Speaking to Villa’s official website, the player reflected on his goal-scoring debut for the club, at the home of Everton.
“You have your memories and that that’s something I will certainly always remember,” Agbonlahor said.
“When I go back there, it’s always on my mind.”
The player recently signed a new long-term deal at Villa Park, and in the same interview he looked back on the players he once idolised as he was making his own first steps into the first-team.
“When I was growing up I loved watching Juan Pablo Angel,” he said. “But, being Birmingham born-and-bred, local players like Lee Hendrie also used to inspire me.
“As a striker, I also looked up to Darius Vassell. All those players were big for me in my development.”
It could be argued that Agbonlahor has gone on to surpass them all, and with Villa very much on the up, he could still be part of a golden age under Paul Lambert, with some of the club’s younger stars tipped to shine extremely brightly in the seasons to come.
