Manchester United defender Tyler Blackett has been reflecting on playing against Cristiano Ronaldo in a pre-season friendly against Real Madrid.
The Premier League giants took on their Spanish counterparts at the 2014 International Champions Cup in the summer.
Almost 110,000 spectators attended the game at the Michigan Stadium on August 2, 2014. It ended in a 3-1 win for the Red Devils and saw them progress to the final of the tournament.
Blackett was in action or Louis van Gaal’s side against the 2014 Champions League winners and came up against the 2013 FIFA Ballon d’Or winner Ronaldo.
Reflecting on facing the former United star, the 20-year-old defender told Inside United: ‘It was one of those where you have to keep your concentration and I tried to stay on my feet.
‘I remembered all the advice I’ve had over the years and it paid off. At first, I wanted to dive in to nick the ball, but felt I was in a bad position so I hung back for a bit and waited for the right time. Even though I don’t think he was at full fitness, he was still tricky!’
Ronaldo has been linked with a move back to United next summer, but at this moment in time it does not look feasible.
Meanwhile, Blackett has gone on to establish himself as a key player for Van Gaal and has impressed for United so far this season.
