Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera has revealed the name of his all-time favourite footballer. It’s Barcelona star Andres Iniesta.
Speaking to Inside United, the summer signing from Athletic Bilbao named his Spanish compatriot as his all-time favourite player.
It is an interesting choice because comparisons between the two players have been made in the past.
Back in June, respected Spanish football journalist Guillem Balague wrote in The Telegraph: ‘An intelligent, quick attacking midfielder with a great brain and a superb attitude he is not dissimilar to his idol, Andres Iniesta, who might or might never get Andres highs but he is nevertheless considered by many to be the logical successor in the Spanish side to Barcelona’s mercurial maestro’.
Iniesta does not exactly perform the task at United that Iniesta does at Barcelona and has yet to make his debut for Spain, but at 25 there is every reason to believe that he can become a genuinely great player.
Meanwhile, Herrera has also been reflecting on his first day at United, having moved to the Red Devils from La Liga outfit Bilbao in the summer transfer window.
‘I came with my father and agent – Sir Bobby was one of their idols’, said the former Real Zaragoza star. ‘I was very impressed but they were even more impressed!
‘It was a great day – maybe the happiest in my life. He is a very friendly man. He told me about the club. I could see he was not only a great player, but a great person as well’.
