Manchester United latest: Club legend praises Louis van Gaal

The latest Manchester United news, views and rumours.

Peter Schmeichel

Former United goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel has backed manager Louis van Gaal to become a success at Old Trafford.

"Manchester United will always be my home, part of me," Schmeichel told

"Alex Ferguson is not there anymore and the club is going through difficult times but I believe bringing Louis van Gaal was a good move. The new team and new coach just need time; it is not easy to reach that level that Ferguson's United was at.

"If you can remember, it took Ferguson some time to manage things in his way too and, after that, he ruled for two decades."

Marcos Rojo

Elsewhere, Man United and Argentina defender Marcos Rojo has been reflecting on his country's World Cup final defeat to Germany.

"It doesn’t change what happened [the fact that Argentina beat the same nation 4-2 in a friendly after the final]," he told United’s official website.

"It was painful for us to lose the final against them. We wanted to win the cup and it eluded us but now we have to put it behind us.

"We have to move forward and think of what’s ahead. We have the Copa America in 2015, so now our focus is to be prepared for the upcoming games."
