Italy coach backs Balotelli to come good

Italy's national boss Antonio Conte believes that Liverpool striker Mario Balotelli will end his tough spell before long.

Mario Balotelli hasn't been chosen in Antonio Conte's Italy squad but the coach has offered an olive branch by stating he thinks the enigmatic striker will come good.

Conte is rumoured to not be Balotelli's biggest fan and unlike his predecessor Cesare Prandelli he obviously doesn't want to build a team around Super Mario.

Balotelli has been unable to make a good case for a spot in the Italy squad after misfiring during the early stages of his Liverpool career.

However, Conte has shown some support for Balotelli and expects him to rediscover his scoring touch.

"Balotelli's past English experience doesn't count," the former Juventus boss said.

"Liverpool is a completely different reality. Sooner or later he will break through.

"Does he regret leaving Italy? You would have to ask him that."

For the time being, Conte is expected to put his faith in Borussia Dortmund striker Ciro Immobile and reported former Tottenham target Mattia Destro for the game against Azerbaijan with Simone Zaza on the bench.
