Four Championship clubs duke it out for defender likened to Ron Vlaar

Charlton Athletic

Derby County, Huddersfield Town, Brighton and Hove Albion and Charlton Athletic have all been scouting MVV Maastricht defender Nick Kuipers.

Four Championship clubs have been scouting Nick Kuipers, a centre back representing MVV Maastricht, for the last 12 months.

Kuipers, 22, has competed in 78 league games for Maastricht since joining the club from his hometown team - RKVVL Plaris Maastricht.

MVV Maastricht compete in the Eerst Divisie, or Jupiler League, which is the Dutch equivalent of the Championship.

And, according to recent reports, the player could make the switch from Holland to England as he has piqued the interest of Derby County, Huddersfield Town, Brighton and Hove Albion and Charlton Athletic.

The cause of the attraction in Kuipers, Sky Sports intimated, is that the centre back has a playing style reminiscent of World Cup star Ron Vlaar, of Aston Villa.

A 6 foot, 3 inch tall athlete, Kuipers is powerfully-built and his physicality is deemed to be the perfect fit for any one of the aforementioned clubs.
