Female sprinter challenges ex-Arsenal speedster to race

Clyne Tackles Gervinho

Ivory Coast sprinter Murielle Ahouré has called out notoriously fast Roma star Gervinho for a race.

Former Arsenal player Gervinho is known for his speed and is one of the quickest players in Serie A, but compatriot Murielle Ahouré thinks she could beat him in a race.

Gervinho has relaunched his career at Roma after a tough spell at Arsenal and has been integral in the team's rise to become title challengers.

The 27-year-old's pace has caused problems for defences all over Italy and he must be amongst the fastest men in Serie A.

But Ivorian sprinter Ahouré, who won silver medals in the 100m and 200m at the World Championships in Moscow last year, thinks she can outpace him.

"Who's faster between me and him? We will see," she said at an event in Abidjan run by Gervinho's sponsors.

It remains to be seen whether Gervinho takes up the challenge. At present he is focused on Roma's Serie A campaign and the Ivory Coast's 2015 African Cup of Nations qualifiers as they look to bounce back from their 4-1 loss to Cameroon last month.
