Ex-Chelsea bad boy's Fiorentina possibility confirmed

Former Fiorentina player Francesco Flachi has added fuel to the fire of rumours that Adrian Mutu could return to the Viola.

Adrian Mutu is headed for the Indian Super League but he could make a shock return to Fiorentina afterwards.

Now 36, Mutu has had a dramatic career of ups and downs, possibly most spectacularly at Chelsea where he was eventually sacked for failing a drugs test.

Having rescinded his contract with Romanian side Petrolul Ploiesti, Mutu is set to play for FC Pune City between October and December, but reports in Italy have suggested that he could return to one of his old stomping grounds in January.

Mutu was deadly at Fiorentina with 54 goals in 112 games, allowing him to rehabilitate his career after the controversy at Chelsea.

"I spoke to Adrian and he confirmed that this possibility exists," former striker Francesco Flachi, who knows Mutu, told RTV38.

"Of course it's not a sure thing yet and it depends on other factors, but it is a definite hypothesis and I think he could be useful to Fiorentina."
