Chelsea fans react on Twitter to Costa performance for Spain - 'He doesn't suit their style!'

Chelsea fans have reacted to a flat performance by Diego Costa for Spain last night.

Chelsea striker Diego Costa is still searching for a goal in Spanish colours after he was left frustrated during Spain’s 2-1 defeat to Slovakia last night.

The forward went into the game in great form; he’s now bagged nine goals in his first seven Premier League appearances for the Blues, capping a remarkable start to his career at Stamford Bridge.

Costa was under pressure following a £32 million move from Atletico Madrid but his style as an aggressive and strong centre forward suits the Premier League well.

He’s also done well to play so effectively for his club while he has been carrying a persistent hamstring problem, which has left Jose Mourinho constantly worrying about muscle fatigue on the striker’s hamstring.

Why he struggles at international level is difficult to examine but it could be due to the difference in style between Chelsea and Spain, which creates a common problem that a lot of players have when it comes to an international break.

Spain are a very subtle, possession based side that like to wear teams down and hurt them with their passing game.

They have stuck with that style of play despite the fact that several sides have started to find effective ways of playing against them, which sees Costa often isolated because he’s not the sort of striker who will drop off and deep into midfield to get the ball.

Chelsea supply possession to him and do the hard work, giving him chances which allow him to perform his killer instincts and hit the back of the net on a regular basis.

Vicente Del Bosque could stick with Costa as Spain look to try and react to a poor result against Slovakia when they take on Luxembourg this weekend.

Here’s what Chelsea fans had to say about his performance last night on Twitter.
