Another Chelsea veteran to be offered a reprieve by AS Roma

The Italian side are said to be keen on signing Petr Cech in January.

This summer saw the long-awaited return of Thibaut Courtois to Chelsea from his three year loan spell at Atletico Madrid.

When he left the club he was a gangly and raw talent of a goalkeeper, but during his time in Spain the Belgian has grown to become one of the best goalkeepers in the world. In fact, if it were not for the talents of Manuel Neuer, he would probably be considered the best stopper out there.

But with his return saw the end of a long reign as the Chelsea number one.

Courtois' arrival saw Petr Cech dropped to the bench after a long term between the sticks for The Blues.

He has since made it clear that he will be considering his future at the club if he does not manage to usurp Courtois as the Chelsea number one. With that not looking likely Cech is expected to consider a move in January.

One team who are reportedly keen are AS Roma - according to a report in local paper Il Tempo, as reported by Football Italia.

The Serie A side have already recently liberated a Chelsea veteran frozen out at Stamford Bridge.

They signed Ashley Cole on a free transfer this summer and that has proved to be a success so far. So Rudi Garcia is considering Cech as an option.

The club have Morgan De Sanctis and inexperienced stopper Lukas Skorupski as their current stoppers, but most would admit that a goalkeeping recruit would be a good addition for the Giallorossi.

Roma could also offer Cech the opportunity to challenge for the Serie A title as well as competing in the Champions League.

The Czech Republic international may indeed find that Roma is his best option if that offer arrives.
