Tw Premier League stars enjoyed a physical battle as Spain and Slovakia faced off.
Chelsea's Diego Costa was, on several occasions, guilty of leading with his elbows during his man-to-man battle with Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel, and in the end tempers flared over.
The 26-year-old Brazilian-born striker has come to Chelsea with a reputation of being a bit of a brawler, and that was evident as he played the full 90 minutes in the lone striker role. Clearly allowing the his frustrations get the better of him.
Skrtel, who restricted the Chelsea man to just three shots on target despite Spain having 73% of the ball, found himself as the target for Costa's frustrations and in the end both players went head-to-head as tempers flared on both sides.
The reasons for Costa's frustrations, couldn't have been more clear.
After going eight years without losing a qualifying game in any competition, the Spanish team were stunted by a resilient Slovakian side that saw just 27% of the ball.
Skrtel and Durica - the heart of Slovakia's defence - were a main component in the win and between them made 28 clearances and interceptions.
Costa, who had been said to be injured, will want to quickly forget about the game against Slovakia and move on to the next one. However, for the Liverpool defender, it's definitely a moment to savour.
