On the 9th October 2013 what were the stories that dominated the football landscape? Including Manchester United, Chelsea and Manchester City.

Let's cast our eyes back to this exact day, the 9th October 2014, but a year earlier.

What were the main tales from that day? What big events were happening in Premier League football?

Here are some of the big scoops from the 9th October 2013…

Rooney on disruption

A year ago today and Wayne Rooney opened up over the reasons why his relationship with Sir Alex Ferguson became so fractured toward the end of his Old Trafford reign.

Rooney looked set for a United exit after seemingly falling foul of Sir Alex - but received a reprieve when the boss retired and David Moyes became boss.

And Rooney revealed it was mainly because he had to continually play out of position:

“Sometimes when you’re not playing that position all the time, it’s difficult to adapt. Sometimes it happens.

“I didn’t feel I got a consistent run of games up front. I actually felt when I played midfield I did okay but I didn’t want to play there.

“I’ve had no problem in the past playing out of position, but I felt I deserved the right to play in my position and that wasn’t happening.”

Recently Rooney has been playing in midfield again as Louis van Gaal looks to find a way at getting Radamel Falcao and Robin van Persie in the same team.

But now he is captain it is hard to see him moping in the same way.

Neymar wanted Messi

Barcelona president Sandro Rosell revealed why Neymar decided to reject moves to Premier League clubs such as Chelsea and Manchester City in the summer of 2013.

The Brazilian forward joined the Catalan giants that summer despite plenty of interest from other clubs across the globe.

But his desire to play with Lionel Messi led him to Barca:

"The key was that the player wanted to come to Barcelona. It was not about knowing how to negotiate; he wanted to be here next to Messi and the rest of the team. Everything was based on that despite offers he had from Man City, Chelsea, Bayern and Real Madrid."

The £48.75 million star has gone on to become a firm fan favourite since his arrival at the Camp Nou.
