Harry Redknapp has named Nottingham Forest full-back Stuart Pearce in his 'best XI' selected of players from the first decade of the Premier League.

The current Forest boss, Pearce is one of five members of England's Euro '96 squad named, along with Tony Adams, Gary Neville, Alan Shearer, and Sol Campbell.

Pearce is a player Redknapp knows well, revealing in his new book, A Man Walks On To A Pitch, serialised by The Mail.: "My West Ham chairman wouldn’t let me buy him, aged 34, because he said he was too old.

"I eventually got him at 37, he played 50 games in two seasons and was voted Hammer of the Year. He was on a search-and-destroy mission in every game.

The first time the ball came to you he was going to smash you, run all over you, chip you into the stand and then take the ball, run forward and shoot. Then he’d get back just as fast as he got up. He was a dream left-back."

Redknapp's full XI from the 90s reads: Schmeichel, G Neville, Campbell, Adams, Pearce, Le Tissier, Vieira, Keane, Giggs, Shearer, Bergkamp.

Pearce was the only player from the team Redknapp managed personally, which says everything about how highly he rated him.
