Marca claims everything is in place for Barcelona legend Victor Valdes to become a Liverpool player.
The Spanish newspaper has suggested that a deal has been sorted out, with only the medical left to be competed with reports suggesting that will happen before the end of October.
“International shot-stopper Victor Valdés is just a medical away from signing for Liverpool,” reports Marca.
“The Spaniard will be undergoing a medical test at the English club in 15 days and will be donning the 'Reds' jersey this autumn.”
Valdes has been without a club since he followed through on his promise to leave Barcelona at the end of last season.
His career at the Nou Camp spanned several years but perhaps didn’t end as he may have been hoping as a bad knee injury meant he missed the final part of last season.
Monaco were tipped to move for him but were seemingly put off by the knee injury, which has allowed Liverpool to swoop in and complete a deal for him outside the transfer window because he’s a free agent.
His arrival at Anfield will put Simon Mignolet under real pressure with questions over the Belgian’s consistency so far this season.
Mignolet hasn’t been at his best but he should be inspired to have such a world class and experienced goalkeeper coming into the squad and keeping him on his toes.
Valdes is also a player who can help Mignolet on a personal level, offering him advice and technical tips based on his several years installed as the number one at the Nou Camp.
Valdes always maintained that he wanted to experience life away from Spain before he retired and where other sides have shied away, the Reds appear to have taken a gamble.
Hopefully it’s one which will pay off.
