Angel di Maria’s strike against Leicester City at the King Power Stadium last month has been voted as Manchester United’s Goal of the Month for September.
It was the Argentina international’s second goal of his United career and came in the 16th minute of the Premier League clash.
Di Maria collected the ball inside his own, got the better of two Leicester players, passed it to Wayne Rooney, got it back and then scored with a sensational chip from inside the Foxes' box.
The former Madrid star picked up 68% of the votes for that sensational goal, which, though, failed to prevent United from slipping up against Leicester.
The Foxes staged a stunning comeback in the second half to pick up a 5-3 victory, and the result seems to have made the ‘Goal of the Month’ award a bit sour for Di Maria.
‘It’s up there as one of the best in my career’, the 26-year-old told United’s official website. ‘It was a nice finish.
‘You need to be able to react quickly to score a goal like that. It’s all about making the decision on the spur of the moment – it just comes to you.
‘I was happy to score but not so happy at the end of the game because we lost it. But it’s one more goal in my career’.
Di Maria has made a truly brilliant start to his United career, with three goals and as many assists in just five Premier League appearances. He has also created 16 chances for his teammates.
Earlier this month, the former Benfica star was voted as United’s Player of the Month for September.
