Liverpool star: 'It took me two or three weeks' to get over losing the title

Martin Skrtel has revealed he spent several weeks thinking about last season's failed title bid.

Liverpool centre-back Martin Skrtel has revealed how hard he was hit by last season's failed title bid.

The Reds were in pole position in the Premier League title race with only a handful of games left last term, only to lose 2-0 to Chelsea at Anfield, before then surrendering points at Crystal Palace.

And Skrtel admits he had to spend 'two or three weeks' reflecting on the missed opportunity in the summer.

“It was very disappointing because we’d been leading the league and fighting for the first place and lost it at the end of the season – the last three games of the season," the Slovakian told Sky Sports.

“It took me two or three weeks after the season, thinking about that. It was in my head and I was trying to find the reasons why it happened.

“After that, looking back I think if somebody told us before the season we could finish second it would be a great result for us.

“At the end of the day I think it was a successful season for us.”

Brendan Rodgers' side have not started this season anywhere near as fluently as the last, with several new signings still far from fully settled to life on Merseyside.

The current international break sees Skrtel join up with the Slovakia side ahead of their Euro 2016 qualifier against Spain.
