Liverpool may lose out on £4.3m bargain as Juventus and Roma move

River Plate

The two Serie A leaders are reportedly preparing to move for River Plate centre-back Eder Alvarez Balanta, who is wanted by Liverpool.

Colombian international defender Eder Alvarez Balanta could be available at a bargain price and two Italian clubs are hoping to step in before Liverpool can.

The 21-year-old is said to be valued at just £4.3 million but has undoubted promise and could be an inspired purchase for a European club.

Balanta is renowned for his ability and calm on the ball and is can play as a full-back in addition to being an accomplished centre-back.

Liverpool have been keeping an eye on the River Plate man for some time, but according to the Italian press, Juventus and Roma may act first.

Juventus and Roma are slugging it out in Serie A, but they are also fighting in the market and have clashed over past targets, such as Juan Iturbe who rejected Juve for Roma.

At present Juve have a massive defensive injury crisis which may prompt them to make Balanta a priority for January.

The price tag and Balanta's lower wage bill gives the Italian clubs a chance of signing him, but Liverpool would still be in pole position if they made a move.
