De Telegraaf has explained why Cambuur turned down the chance to play Manchester United in a friendly.
Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf has offered an explanation of why SC Cambuur turned down an invitation from Manchester United to play a friendly at Old Trafford next week.
United were thought to be keen on a match which would have provided Louis van Gaal and key members of the first team squad with an opportunity to maintain momentum during the international break. It would have also allowed key players to improve their match fitness.
However, Cambuur turned down the potential match, with De Telegraaf suggesting it’s because of their tight schedule, which is a perfectly reasonable and logical explanation.
“The exhibition game doesn’t fit in terms of travel and preparation time for the Frisian derby against Heerenveen next weekend,” reports the paper.
United recently announced they would be looking to complete a series of friendly games to compensate for the Champions League absence this season but in this case, they have been unsuccessful in persuading the fourth placed Eredivisie side.
