Happy to have made my first England start and to come away with a win! Great support from the England fans tonight! pic.twitter.com/DAyMDIlCFf— Calum Chambers (@CalumChambers95) October 9, 2014
Arsenal defender Calum Chambers confirmed his rapid rise to prominence by making his debut for England at Wembley on Thursday night.
Chambers started in the 5-0 victory over minnows San Marino, and could not have asked for a more comfortable introduction to international football.
The right-back played all 90 minutes, completing 86 per cent of his passes, and winning two aerial duels.
He made four interceptions, more than any of his fellow defenders, and won one tackle. Going forward, he was able to create two chances for his team.
After the game, Chambers took to Twitter, above, to comment on his delight at wearing the Three Lions shirt, and thanking all the fans who came to watch the side in action against the minnows.
The match may have been predictable to many, but for Chambers it was an important step in his development as a player, and a certain confidence boost which he can take back to his club.
