Angel Di Maria 'very grateful' to United boss Louis van Gaal

Angel Di Maria Argentina

The Argentine has been gushing about his new boss at Manchester United.

This summer Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal quickly decided that one of his main targets for the summer was to snap up Real Madrid winger Angel Di Maria, as he felt United had little threat from the wide positions.

In the end he got his man.

Manchester United smashed the British transfer record in the summer to sign Di Maria from Real Madrid for a fee of £59.7 million.

So far it has not looked like United overpaid for his services. Di Maria has already contributed with three goals for the club since his arrival and three assists - he has proved to be a very impressive signing indeed.

The player is currently in Asia with the Argentine national side for an international friendly with Brazil but spoke to Manchester United's official website before he left for international duty about his time at the club so far - especially his relationship with his new manager.

And he says it is that good relationship that first made him decide that United was the club for him.

He stated:

“We get on very well [me and van Gaal], he was one of the reasons I came here. I’m very grateful to him because he wanted to sign me. That makes me happy. Also, he’s a person who wants to win all the time, and to take the club back into the Champions League as quickly as possible, so the focus is very much on that. In every training session and every match we want to give 100 per cent."

He went on to discuss training sessions under the Dutchman, which he admits are a change from what he has previously encountered in Spain and Portugal:

“The sessions are different because here football is a lot more competitive, so you feel the physical aspects and the contact more. As a result you need to be 100 per cent fit all the time and ready for anything. I really like that. I like it when the manager takes games, and when we do work on finishing or free-kicks. It motivates you to train harder.”

It certainly sounds like Di Maria and van Gaal have a great working relationship, and United fans will be hoping that continues far into the future considering the impressive results it has already produced.
