Southampton striker Graziano Pelle’s impressive club form this season has finally resulted in him getting a shot at playing for his country.
The 29-year-old has been included in the Azzurri squad for their upcoming Euro 2016 qualifiers against Azerbaijan and Malta.
Having regained his confidence and goalscoring touch during his two years at Feyenoord in the Eredivisie, Pelle has been on fire in the Premier League so far this season.
The former AZ and Parma striker has scored four goals in seven league appearances, while creating 11 chances for his teammates.
Pelle’s form has resulted in newly-appointed Italy coach Antonio Conte giving him a shot at making it big for his country at the expense of Liverpool striker Mario Balotelli, who has been omitted from the team due to his lack of form.
The Saints star has been training hard this week ahead of a possible start against Azerbaijan in Palermo on Friday.
