Ibrahimovic injury 'inexplicable'

Sweden's team doctor Leif Sward has admitted that he has no idea what is wrong with Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Paris Saint-Germain star Zlatan Ibrahimovic will miss Sweden's Euro 2016 qualifier against Russia tomorrow due to a mystery injury.

The ex-Juventus man is a big loss to his national side and his symptoms have left the Swedish medical staff baffled.

The injury appears to be in the heel region, but no definite diagnosis has been reached.

"We have done tests and his pain is inexplicable," doctor Leif Sward admitted.

"There are no signs of inflammation, only pain.

"We just don't want it to get worse or for there to be any damage to the Achilles tendon.

"For now we can't let him play."

Sweden look short of attacking options with Ibrahimovic and will probably have to put their hopes in former Bolton man Johan Elmander, whose record is less than formidable.

Another option is Ola Toivonen, who has admitted snubbing Liverpool in the past and is again reportedly wanted by the Premier League side.
