Hartson has his say on West Ham’s three great summer signings

Ex-West Ham United striker speaks about three of the club's new additions.

Former West Ham United forward John Hartson has been speaking about the Hammers’ summer signings.

In an interview with the club’s official website, the ex-Wales international spoke about Enner Valencia, Diafra Sakho and Alex Song, who have all settled in brilliantly since moving to Upton Park.

Sakho has arguably been the star of the show so far this season, scoring five goals in five matches, and Hartson praised the Senegal forward, saying, “He’s fast, he’s strong, he’s a presence.

“It’s important to have a player you know will finish the chances you make for him.”

Sakho has certainly done that, striking up an impressive partnership with Ecuador international Valencia, and Hartson has also been impressed with the other new West Ham striker.

“They’ve brought in some pace to the side with Enner Valencia who I saw do very, very well for Ecuador in the World Cup. That was a shrewed bit of business.”

But the player some West Ham fans feel has been the best addition of all did not cost a penny – at least not yet.

Song has been fantastic since his loan move from Barcelona and Hartson believes the Cameroon international is a great addition to Sam Allardyce’s squad.

“He’s got great experience,” Hartson said. “He’s fantastic at sitting in front of the defence. He can maraud around the midfield, he’s good on the ball and he’s another presence on the pitch.”

There is no doubt West Ham have bought wisely; the only question now is: Can the players – both new and old – maintain their fine form for the entire campaign?
