Full Cast List Announced For Dad's Army Remake

Dad's Army

Don't Panic! The full cast list for the Dad's Army remake is finally here.

When the news broke back in April 2014 that they were remaking classic British SitCom Dad's Army there was a fairly even mix of cheers and boos. Some feel as though it should be laid to rest, fondly remembered as a classic of it's time, while other praised the idea of bringing the lovable characters to a new audience.

The remake, we now know, will take the form of a one off movie and will be directed by Oliver Parker (Johnny English Reborn, St Trinians, Dorian Gray). Shooting starts this month on location in Yorkshire although no potential release date has yet been announced.

So who are the actors taking on the formidable task of filling these beloved roles?

The lead role of course must be that of the uptight and by the book Captain Mainwaring which will be taken on by Toby Jones (Captain America, Harry Potter, Hunger Games). Alongside him will be Bill Nighy (Hot Fuzz, Valkyrie, Harry Potter), playing the charming Wilson. Also among the cast is Catherine Zeta-Jones who will be playing a Journalist sent to interview the home guard, just as they recieve word from MI5 that a Spy is in the area. Could that be the first hint of a plot? We shall see.

Here is a list of the cast as we know it so far.

Captain Mainwaring - Toby Jones (Captain America, Harry Potter, Hunger Games)

Sgt Wilson - Bill Nighy (Hot Fuzz, Valkyrie, Harry Potter)

Corporal Jones - Tom Courtenay (Doctor Zhivago, The Golden Compass)

Godfrey - Michael Gambon (Harry Potter, Sleepy Hollow, Gosford Park)

Pike - Blake Harrison (The Inbetweeners, White Van Man)

Walker - Danny Mays (Atonement, Welcome To the Punch, Top Buzzer)

Fraser - Bill Paterson (The Killing Fields, The Witches, Spice World)

Journalist (Unknown name at present) - Catherine Zeta-Jones (Chicago, The Terminal, Red 2)

Unknown - Sarah Lancashire (Coronation Street)

Unknown - Alison Steadman (Life Is Sweet, Gavin & Stacey)

With that stellar cast we are pleasantly surprised and can't wait to see how the film is going to turn out. The big question will be if they bring their own personalities to the characters or keep in all the original quirks that we know and love? After all we all want to hear Captain Mainwaring call Pike a "stupid boy" or Fraser claiming that "We're doomed" don't we?

We will keep you posted on any further developments as we get them.
