FC Porto’s Bruno Martins Indi comments on relationship with Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal

Louis van Gaal

FC Porto defender Bruno Martins Indi speaks on his relationship with Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal.

Manchester United will reportedly scour the European market in the January transfer window for a defender.

Although the Red Devils had more than enough time to sign a world-class centre-back in the summer, they did not do so, or so are the claims.

A number of names have already been mentioned, and one suspects that many more will crop up once we head into December.

One player whose name could be mentioned in regard to a move to United is Bruno Martins Indi, who himself has only fuelled the speculation.

‘Mentally I still have contact with Van Gaal’, the 22-year-old told Dutch magazine Helden when asked if he still speaks to Louis van Gaal, according to Sport Witness. ‘I think of him and I think he still thinks of me’.

Indi worked with Van Gaal at the Netherlands national team and was a key player for the Oranje at the 2014 World Cup.

It is understandable that the 22-year-old has a close and strong relationship with the United manager, but could a move to the Red Devils in January be on the cards?

Probably not.

Firstly, if Van Gaal wanted to sign Indi, then he would have done so in the summer when he was still at Feyenoord. The Dutchman cost Porto €7.7 million in transfer fee so it’s not that United could not afford him.

Secondly, Indi joined the Portuguese giants only in the summer and it is very unlikely that they will sell him in January.
