Former Irrational Games members look for pledgers to help get their survivalist river journey on the water.
A group of developers with previous experience on well-known games such as Bioshock Infinite, Halo, Guitar Hero and Rock Band have taken to Kickstarter to crowd-source funding for a new game titled The Flame in the Flood.
Described as a "rogue-lite river journey through the backwaters of a forgotten post-societal America", the game will have you playing as Scout, who with the company of her dog Aesop sets out on a river journey in search of ‘salvation’ whilst attempting to survive the dangers of life in a world existing in the aftermath of the collapse of civilisation.
The Flame in the Flood uses procedural generation to create a new river-map each time you play and each game is a one-life-only experience, although Aesop will return with items he was carrying during your previous play-through.
Surviving the rigours of river life will have you seeking out remedies to afflictions that affect you each time you travel. You can reach a state of exhaustion, get hyperthermia and be afflicted by snake bites, open wounds and infection. To stay alive long enough to reach the end you’ll need to employ some quite real survival techniques, staying dry and keeping warm and healthy whilst also attempting to avoid the threat of rapacious wildlife looking to eat you.
The game is to come with a sound track from alternative-country singer Chuck Ragan along with The Camaraderie, The Fearless Kin and other special guests. To hear some of the music and get a look at the style of The Flame in the Flood check out the Kickstarter video below.
The dev team building The Flame in the Flood comprises mainly of former members of Irrational Games who announced their closure earlier this year. A core of the team draws from devs who worked on Irrational’s swansong Bioshock Infinite, with the game’s art director, senior level builder, senior AI engineer, senior technical animator and lead level designer all lending their talents.
The Flame in the Flood is planned to come out in 2015 for PC and Mac and is the second game this week to surface on Kickstarter from former Irrational employees. Another team with previous Bioshock Infinite experience are also working on a first person adventure called The Black Glove
At the time of writing The Flame in the Flood has generated $47,800 of the project’s $150,000 goal after only a day. To check out more of the game and make your pledge, hit this link to go to the Kickstarter page.
