Barcelona defender Dani Alves has been linked with a highly unlikely move to Chelsea.
The Brazilian has already revealed that he’s leaving Barcelona at the end of the season and will be moving to England, with Chelsea the latest side to be linked with signing him.
We’ve taken a look at three key questions and reaction from Chelsea fans since the rumours first broke.
Do Chelsea need him?
In short, no.
The Blues already have cover at right-back in the form of Branislav Ivanovic and Cesar Azpilicueta and summer signing Filipe Luis has struggled to get into the team because of how effective Azpilicueta has been on the left hand side.
What would he offer Chelsea they don’t already have?
He’d certainly inject some experience into the back four, which would be useful on the occasions that John Terry isn’t available. However, the Blues have good experience all over their team in defence, midfield and up front at the moment.
How would he fit in?
Alves has always been a very aggressive and attacking full-back and he’d play as just that. He could create the width on the right hand side for Mourinho, which would allow him to tuck the right winger into a more central position,
However, it’s a job that Ivanovic already does extremely well, linking up with Andre Schurrle and Willian in midfield.
Here’s some reaction from Chelsea fans.
