A select round-up of the latest news relating to Manchester United

Manchester United defender Paddy McNair has been ruled out for up to three weeks with a hamstring injury.

The news originally broke yesterday, but what fans may not have known was that the 19-year-old had been lined up as a potential replacement for Jonny Evans in the Northern Ireland team for their upcoming matches according to the Belfast Telegraph.

Had McNair featured, it would have been a truly outstanding end to a fairy tale few weeks, but following the injury blow, if Evans does not fully recover from his own setback his country will have to look elsewhere for a suitable replacement..

In other news, United goalkeeper David de Gea has hailed the influence of coach Frans Hoek in comments published by the Manchester Evening News.

The Dutchman arrived at Old Trafford this summer along with Louis van Gaal, and the Spanish stopper said, “Frans Hoek has helped me a lot.

“We are working on trying to start moves from the goalkeeper. I think I’m playing the best football of my career. Now I am ready for anything.”
