Former Arsenal captain Thomas Vermaelen has continued his recovery from a hamstring injury that has been a major issue since the 2014 World Cup.
The 28-year-old defender suffered the problem while playing for Belgium in Brazil in the summer and has yet to make his competitive debut for Barcelona.
The centre-back joined the Spanish giants from Arsenal in the summer transfer window for a reported fee of £15 million.
Vermaelen is getting close to full fitness, having played in a friendly game for the youth team and is training with his teammates.
The Belgian star has been left out of his country’s squad for the upcoming international matches, which has allowed him to train at Barcelona.
Which is what Vermaelen did on Tuesday morning. He appeared on pitch two at the Ciutat Esportiva but, according to Barcelona’s official website, ‘worked out in isolation’.
There had been suggestions that the former Arsenal star had suffered a further setback in his recovery, but those fears were dismissed by Barcelona coach Luis Enrique.
