The stat which questions any Liverpool move for £30m Higuain

There is a stat which would question the logic in Liverpool going after Gonzalo Higuain.

Liverpool are one of the sides to have been linked with a potential move for Argentine striker Gonzalo Higuain, with reports suggesting recently that he’s become unsettled under former Reds boss Rafael Benitez.

However, if reports of Liverpool’s interest are accurate, there is a stat from Serie A related to Higuain which doesn’t make for impressive reading.

Only one player in Italy’s top division has missed more clear cut chances than the £30 million rated forward this season, which is something the Reds would have to hope improves significantly if they are going to make a heavy investment on him.

The logic in doing so is a little confusing as the side has just signed Mario Balotelli from AC Milan in a £16 million deal, but the Italian has struggled to make a big impact at the club since arriving.

With Daniel Sturridge out injured, the emphasis has fallen onto Balotelli, Rickie Lambert and Fabio Borini to fill the void created by his absence but none of the trio have been able to make their mark up front as Brendan Rodgers and the fans may have been hoping for.

There will also be questions over whether Liverpool should shell out another big fee in the middle of a season when they have just spent so heavily in the summer transfer market.

That could create a need for sales to generate funds aimed at balancing the books, which will delay a large deal like any for Higuain which would likely involved a number of complicated terms and conditions.

What Liverpool need right now is goals and with Sturridge due to return after the international break, they likely won’t have any need for an out of form striker coming into the club by the winter.
