Report: Players vote to save Inter boss

According to the Italian press, Inter's players have saved coach Walter Mazzarri's job by saying they want him to stay.

Inter boss Walter Mazzarri was given the benefit of the doubt after last season's disappointments and he seems to have dodged the axe again for the time being.

The Nerazzurri are reeling after losing 4-1 to Cagliari and then 3-0 to Fiorentina. The two results leave Inter already looking unlikely to haul their way into title contention and facing an uphill battle if they are to secure Champions League qualification for next season.

Club owner Erick Thohir has already been more patient than some Italian chairman would have been and it seems he is still willing to put his trust in Mazzarri.

Sportmediaset is reporting that Inter's players vouched for their embattled coach during a meeting today and asked the club to give him more time to get things right.

It is also suggested that the players admitted they would like to see new faces arrive in the January transfer window.

Inter are said to be keen on Liverpool striker Fabio Borini who they may be able to lure on loan with the option for a permanent deal in June 2015.

The fixture list isn't kind to struggling coaches and Inter's next game is a tough home clash with Napoli, who have also underachieved somewhat.
