The Premier League and Championship may have disappeared for another international break but that hasn’t stopped the news coming thick and fast as players speak with the international media and the rumour mill continues to spin round.
We’ve decided to take a look back on the stories making the news on this day last year.
‘Wilshere on smoking’
Jack Wilshere admits he made a mistake when he was caught smoking outside a nightclub.
Arsene Wenger confirmed he would talk with the England international, who made promises he later broke when he was caught smoking again earlier this summer.
“I made a mistake. Players make mistakes, I'm not a smoker. I spoke with the boss, he asked me what happened and I explained to him and we sorted it out,” said Wilshere.
‘Modric rules out Manchester United move’
Former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Luka Modric admitted that he wanted to retire at Real Madrid, ruling out a move to Manchester United.
The Croatian was being heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford after a poor start to the season under new manager David Moyes.
“I have no doubt that the best thing that ever happened to me in football is to play in Madrid - In football it is difficult to plan, but if you ask me, I would like to retire in Madrid. With titles, of course,” said Modric.
‘McDermott makes promise to Leeds fans’
Former Leeds United manager Brian McDermott promised he’d do as much as he could to transform the side’s fortunes after a defeat to Derby County.
Leeds lost the game against the Rams 3-1, which added to a poor run of results which stretched over six games for the ex-Elland Road chief.
“There’s frustration for all of us. We’ve got to get it right and that makes me more determined – I’m as frustrated as anybody. It’s 19 games since we came here – that is a short period of time - and nobody wants to do this more than me,” he told the Leeds website.
