La Liga expert: This is how Chelsea are getting the best from Fabregas

Guillem Balague says that Chelsea are getting the best out of Cesc Fabregas by giving him the freedom that he needs.

La Liga expert Guillem Balague believes that Chelsea have made Cesc Fabregas a superstar, and that is why they are seeing the best out of him.

The Sky Sports pundit suggests that Barcelona tried to restrain Fabregas too much tactically, whereas Chelsea are letting him have more freedom and that is why he is thriving.

Fabregas moved to Barcelona three years ago, from Arsenal, but things never truly worked out for him and the club decided to cash-in on him.

Barca's loss has been Chelsea gain, though, as the Spaniard has been one of the Blues' key performers throughout the opening of the campaign and Balague thinks that he should continue to impress with such licence to express himself.

"The demands of a Barcelona midfielder require a lot of discipline and a tactical approach, and Cesc loves the freedom to play wherever he wants, and that’s where you’re going to get the best out of him," Balague wrote in his Sky Sports column.

"At Barcelona, that couldn’t happen because they already had one player in Messi who plays freely, but at Chelsea he can. Sometimes he will be a 10, sometimes an eight or a nine even, but generally he is a player who will enjoy that more than the obligations of a midfielder in Spain.

"Pep Guardiola tried to convince him for a long time what he had to do, but couldn’t fully, and I think Cesc eventually realised it didn’t matter what he was going to do at Barcelona - he was just going to be another midfielder, not a superstar. But he is at Chelsea, and would have been at Arsenal if Arsene Wenger wanted him."

Fabregas already has seven assists to his name since moving to Stamford Bridge and his passing range has taken his new team to the next level.

The partnership he has formed with striker Diego Costa has worked to devastating effect and the Blues remain unbeaten so far.

They are already five points ahead of last season's champions Manchester City and it will take some going to be able to stop them lifting the title in May.
