Younes Kaboul says that it is a joy to play alongside Jan Vertonghen in the Tottenham Hotspur defence.
The duo have become the first choice pairing at Spurs under Mauricio Pochettino and Kaboul is clearly enjoying playing alongside the Belgian.
“It’s a joy to play with Jan, we’ve a good understanding but we can still improve,” Kaboul said to the club's official site. “We can be even better. It’s still early in the season and we’re working hard in training to be 100 per cent all the time.”
Kaboul's importance to the Spurs team was highlighted this summer when Pochettino announced that he would be captain of the side.
It was a decision which many supporters of the North-London club queried, but Kaboul has been one of their better performers so far this season.
Spurs haven't been in particularly eye-catching form, but they are in sixth position and they owe a lot of this down to their back-line.
Whilst Hugo Lloris has been superb in goal, Kaboul and Vertonghen are one of the better partnerships in the Premier League and appear to complement each other well.
Their ability was on display against Arsenal in the North London derby, where the side picked up a 1-1 draw, and then they combined well to thwart Southampton in a 1-0 win at the weekend.
It has given Pochettino's side something to build on when they return from the international break, where a tough test against Manchester City awaits.
In that game, their two centre-backs are sure to be needed to be on the top of their game, but the signs are positive and Spurs supporters will be hoping the partnership continues to develop as the season progresses.
