Comparing the Arsenal summer signing with a player they were strongly linked with before his move to Atletico Madrid.
Prior to his move from Real Sociedad to Atletico Madrid this summer, Antoine Griezmann was strongly linked with a move to Arsenal.
Those rumours were only fanned further when Gunners boss Arsene Wenger admitted he had been keeping a close eye on the Frenchman, who was starring in La Liga, ending the campaign with 20 goals and five assists.
In the end, Arsenal added Alexis Sanchez and Danny Welbeck to their front-line, but how does the Chilean's early-season form compare with that of Griezmann?
As you can see from the table below, it is currently no contest, with the Atletico player struggling to replicate his form from last season.
Griezmann has scored just one goal so far, compared with Sanchez's three to date. The Arsenal player also has two assists while the French international has none so far.
Sanchez also averages more key passes, more shots and more interceptions per game, and goes on nearly six-times as many dribbles per match as the Atletico star.
|Goals||Goal Assist||Key Passes per game||Passing Accuracy||Shots per game||Dribbles per game||Tackles per game||Interceptions per game||Appearances||Mins Played|
The only areas above where Griezmann is currently outperforming the Arsenal man is in terms of passing accuracy and tackles per game (just).
In short, while Sanchez may not yet be dazzling to the degree of Diego Costa or Angel Di Maria, he has started his Arsenal career the right way, while the former Arsenal target who ended up swapping one La Liga club for another has a long way to go to get back to his outstanding form of just a few short months ago.
