Former Liverpool star has congratulated his Real Madrid team-mate on social media - why?
At 25-years-old, Gareth Bale is seemingly still in a developmental stage in his career. Even after transferring to Real Madrid from Tottenham Hotspur in a world record £86 million transfer and even after a commendable first season where his goals alone secured Los Blancos trophies.
The Welshman, who started his career as a left back, has transitioned from a left winger into a versatile forward and has most commonly been deployed as a right-sided forward of late but, regardless of unfamiliar terrain, Bale continues to effect the scoreline in a positive manner.
In seven La Liga outings and a brace of Champions League appearances, Bale has returned five goals, four assists and 13 key passes.
Outside of Cristiano Ronaldo, there are few athletes in world football who can rival Bale - and that has been acknowledged by award givers in the player's homeland as he was recently lauded for the consistency in his performance-level.
Yesterday, Bale won the Welsh player award for a record fourth time in five years.
Today, he was congratulated by former Liverpool right back Alvaro Arbeloa, who said: "Congratulations to my friend Gareth Bale for winning the Welsh Player of the Year award!"
