Manchester United ace Angel Di Maria believes Radamel Falcao’s first goal for the club was an important moment for the club.
The Colombian international arrived at Old Trafford on deadline day following an agreement with Ligue 1 outfit Monaco to take him initially on loan.
Forming a part of a new-look attack for the Red Devils alongside the likes of Di Maria, Robin Van Persie and Wayne Rooney, before this weekend Falcao was the only one yet to get on the scoresheet this term.
The 28-year-old has contributed to the team in other areas, but during Sunday’s 2-1 victory over Everton the former Atletico Madrid star ultimately did what he does best by firing in a second half winner.
It was a special moment for Falcao, but more importantly, it propelled the Red Devils in to the top four where they will be hoping to remain for the rest of the season.
United’s other goalscorer Di Maria was named Man of the Match, but talking to BT Sport after the game, he reserved special praise for his South American teammate and revealed how important his goal was.
“Yes, it's great for him. He's been looking for that first goal for a while now and it's very, very important for him now.” He said, quoted by the Daily Mail.
“I think not only him but ourselves are on the right road now and the main thing is we're fighting for victories and fighting for points. We've got the three points for the day and hopefully we can now move further up the table.”
Falcao joined United for a reported £6 million loan fee and have the option to make his deal become permanent at the end of the season.
His first goal for the club took his career tally to a total of 201 club goals from 308 appearances.
