Arsenal fans tuning into Sunday’s Ligue 1 clash between Guingamp and Nantes were treated to a moment of magic from one player who could yet be the next bright young star to arrive at the Emirates via France in the coming years.
Still only 19, George-Kevin Nkoudou has emerged as one to watch for Les Canaris’ this season and the left winger was the undoubted star of the show at the weekend after cutting inside onto his weaker right foot to score the only goal of the game for the away side.
An under-17 and under-19 France international, those behind the scenes at Arsenal will be no strangers to the former Paris Saint-Germain academy star’s talents, with the Mirror reporting last year that the club were scouting the youngster with a view to tabling a bid.
Now part of the Nantes first-team setup under Michel Der Zakarian, Nkoudou could be on the brink of a breakthrough season in France.
A pacy, skillful winger who can evidently shoot on either foot, Sunday’s game was only his second start in Ligue 1 and the midfielder could now be in line for an extended stint in the starting line-up after his match-winning display against Guingamp.
And more first-team football could see the player put back in the shop window ahead of what would most likely be a summer move.
Previously available at a bargain £1 million due to a contractual release clause, Nkoudou could command a slightly higher transfer fee and Arsenal are unlikely to be the only Premier League side linked with a bid for the attacker.
The France youth star has attracted similar interest across the continent with the likes of Juventus and Porto thought to be taking a close look at the player. He remains a player with real potential to be a star in the Premier League, however.
